Zebco Micro SS combos

Small but mighty

The new Zebco Micro combos might be small in stature, but they pack a big punch in the heat of battle. Micro SS is set to make a solid entrance into the recreational fishing category for 2010.

The “SS” stands for “stainless steel,” meaning the spincast reels’ front covers and pick-up pin are constructed with the durable and reliable material that the combo is named after. Micro SS is available in spincast, triggerspin and spinning models. Both the spincast and triggerspin versions have a 4.3:1 gear ratio.

The spinning combo features a 05-size reel with an aluminum spool and a 5.2:1 gear ratio.  All Micro SS reels have a ball bearing drive for smooth, reliable performance and come pre-spooled with 4-lb. test. Each Micro SS combo is equipped with a two-piece, 4’6” ultralight Z-glass rod.

Zebco's new "1-Stop Tackle Shop"

Zebco says: "We did the shopping for you"

Zebco has long been known as the brand that taught America to fish, but never has the company made it this easy for new anglers to get started in the sport.

Zebco's new "1-Stop Tackle Shop" takes the concept of matching the right rod, reel and accessories together in a single package to a whole new level. In a nutshell, it's like having the company's fishing experts do all of the shopping to provide recreational anglers with everything really needed for a fun family fishing outing, and doing it for many of its most popular models, such as the 202 and 33.

"It's all right there on the package, alongside the rod and reel," explained Zebco product manager Scott Smith. "Line is already on the reel, the rod is a perfect match, and the items in our on-board packs are useful, easy to understand and the right stuff."

Zebco has implemented the 1-Stop concept on all new flatboard packaging for its Micro, 202, 404, 11, 22, Lady 22, 33 and Lady SP rod/reel combinations. The graphics on each package identifies the type of action for which it is designed: medium light, medium, medium heavy, etc.

Also, a "Post-it" style note on each package tells what comes with the combo, and all accompanying items have been selected to work with that rod and reel.  For example, items with the Micro combo are ideal for most light line applications, such as fishing for panfish. And instructions are simple to understand, from clipping on a bobber to tying on a pre-rigged grub.

The choices of the accessories match the intended use for the rod and reel combinations. Some have assorted tackle, others have a "tackle wallet," and the third option is a lure assortment. Each option adds $8-$10 in value to the combination, but at no increase in the rod and reel's retail price.

"Recreational fishing is meant to be fun and Zebco wants to make sure it is just that," Smith added. "Even the true beginners will find our new 1-Stop rod and reel combos to be the perfect way for an on-the-water introduction to the sport."

Zebco 101 Rod & Reel combo

Provides fishing basics for beginners

Most are familiar with "101" as the title of a basic or entry-level class, so when it’s time to teach others how to fish, the aptly named Zebco 101 makes a great starter rod and reel combo for beginners.  That’s because the folks at Zebco have properly matched the two items for a variety of light fishing applications, and there’s just nothing easier to use than a push-button Zebco spincast reel.

The reel has a 2.7:1 gear ratio and comes pre-spooled with 6-lb. test.  The Zebco 101 rod is a two-piece, 5-ft. durable Z-glass rod, so the combos fit nicely in small hands. Of course, anglers of all anglers will find the 101 combo to be ideal for dock and pond fishing.

Zebco 101 combos are available in red or blue.

Hook, Line and Sinker combos

Zebco takes the knot out for recreational anglers

Beginners and regular weekend anglers alike will find the "no knot" assortment of Zebco's new "Hook, Line and Sinker combos to be a genuine delight. The new concept makes rigging a snap, literally, because the reel in the rod/reel combination comes with a snap swivel already tied to the fishing line.

To get ready for fishing, the angler simply threads the swivel through the rod's line guides and snaps on the hook or lure of choice. With the concept, Zebco has eliminated one of the most intimidating elements of rigging for the novice angler - trying to tie a fishing knot.

The Hook, Line and Sinker option is available in three popular Zebco models: the 202 and 404 spincast versions, and the ZSP20 spinning reel model. Rods are matched to each reel.

The tackle assortment for each model is visibly displayed in the special "flag" attachment on the rod.  The tackle has been selected to work especially with the respective models, with the 202 and ZSP being for "light" fishing applications, and the 404 for "heavy" action.

Zebco also makes a bold eco-friendly statement with the new Hook, Line and Sinker packaging. The rod and reel are totally exposed for consumers to be able to touch and feel, and the tackle assortment is contained in a small configuration that is easy to open.
