The weight reduction of more than two ounces from previous PT versions is the result of a combination of redesigns and new materials. The changes improve performance and maintainability without compromising durability and features.
The Energy baitcast series lost 2.1 ounces over earlier models, but gained two PT bearings in the process making it now a nine-bearing design. There are five models in the family, including right and left hand version in both the “Burner” and “Speed” gear ratios, plus a right-hand model only in the 5.1:1 “Power” gear ratio.

Included is a new trip mechanism material upgrade, using a heat-treated stainless steel injection-molded part instead of die-cast zinc and aluminum components. The change adds to the overall performance and longevity of the reels.

Quantum Catalyst Baitcast Reels A new Series added to the line-up The new Quantum Catalyst PT (Performance Tuned) baitcast series symbolizes the brand’s move to smaller and lighter designs for 2009.
Weighing in at nearly two full ounces less than previous
Catalyst reels benefit from the total reduction in overall body dimensions shared by the entire PT baitcast family, plus gets the same amazing weight loss as a result of new materials and the redesign of select features.
New is Micro ACS, a smaller version of the same feature that allows fine-tuning of the reel’s brakes through the simple clicking of an external dial. The new Catalyst baitcasters are built to deliver a heavyweight punch. They feature a CNC machined aluminum frame and side cover for strength and durability, and their seven PT Hybrid bearing systems means smoothness is a given.
The new low profile Catalyst series consists of four models: two gear ratio options each – 6.3:1 and 7:1 – in both right and left-hand versions. The high-speed “Burner” model features a V-spool and holds 110 yards of 12-lb. test line, the 6.3:1 version holds 135 yds.
All Catalyst baitcast reels have the other traditional PT-family characteristics, too, including MaxCast aluminum spool, dual-bearing continuous Anti-Reverse, ceramic drag system and Hot Sauce lubrication. There is also a Catalyst PT Saltwater baitcast reel available with specialized components and a spool that holds 150 yards of 12-lb. test line.
